Physical Oceanography is a three-hour lecture and three-hour laboratory course focusing on ways in which oceans function and interact with earth systems. Consideration is given to sea floor geology, ocean waves and currents, vertical mixing, water chemistry, heat, and energy transfer, coastal processes and coastal hazards. This course also addresses the importance of the oceans to human beings as well as the impact of human activities on the ocean.
